Founded 6 Aug 1937, Paris (France), at the Descartes Congress, under the patronage of International Institute of Intellectual Cooperation (IICI), formed 9 Aug 1925, and amalgamated, 1945, with UNESCO, on the initiative of Ake Petzäll (Sweden) and Raymond Bayer (France). Formerly named Institut international de collaboration philosophique. Had been under the auspices of Permanent Committee of the International Congresses of Philosophy, set up in Aug 1900, until Aug 1948 when the latter was superseded by International Federation of Philosophical Societies (FISP). Present name adopted 1942. Statutes changed: 1952, 1954, 1957, 1959, 1967, 1969, 1983, 2011, 2014. Registered by French Ministerial Decree, 11 Oct 1955.
