History
1099, Jerusalem (Israel), and grew to include 2,000 communities throughout Europe. United with the Knights of St John in 1489. Disintegrated by the French Revolution and then reconstituted by Pius IX on 10 Dec 1847. Statutes further modified in 1888, 1907, 1949, 1962 and 1977, to make it an Order under the benign protection of the Holy See. From 1907 to 1928 the Popes held the grandmastership, which is now given to one of the cardinals. Known also as Knights of the Holy Sepulchre.

Propagate the faith and maintain of the rights of the Church in the Holy Land.
