History

7 Jan 1972, Kuwait, as a joint undertaking of member states of Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC). Also referred to in French as Société arabe de transport maritime pétrolier.

Aims

Increase Arab participation in the tanker transport industry through transport of crude oil, gas, refined products and petrochemicals; monitor maritime legislation issued by the IMO; implement regulations and requirements sanctioned by the IMO; own, operate and charter a fleet of crude oil and oil products tankers.

Activities

Executes contacts in the open market for transporting crude oil and refined petroleum products. Fleet of carriers (2 crude oil tankers; 4 liquefied gas carriers; 4 clean petroleum products tankers) work through time charter contracts with large international oil companies and Arab petroleum marketing companies. Ballast water management project aims to protect the marine environment and limit pollution of the atmosphere.
