1929, Amsterdam (Netherlands), at 13th International Ophthalmological Congress. Statutes adopted 1930, Geneva (Switzerland). Formerly: International Organization for the Campaign Against Trachoma -- Organisation internationale pour la lutte contre le trachoma. Previously also known as International Organization for the Prevention of Trachoma and International League for the Campaign Against Trachoma. In French also referred to as Ligue contre le trachome (LCT).
Promote research, diagnosis and prevention of trachoma; provide a scientific basis for the fight against trachoma by circulating information on current trachoma research and supplying the latest information on etiology, diagnosis, epidemiology, prevention and treatment; facilitate adoption of sanitary and other regulations aimed at implementing the fight against trachoma; promote the SAFE Strategy (developed by WHO) by promoting individual and environmental changes.
