Founded 1987, following a meeting convened by G-XG0466 - Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and A-XA2654 - International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) - SSC Conservation Breeding Specialist Group (CBSG). Formalized 1988. Original title: Madagascar Fauna Group -- Groupe pour l'élevage et la conservation de la faune malgache.
Provide technical support for Parc Ivoloina, a native fauna zoo in Tamatave, Madagascar; provide protection and support for the Betampona Natural Reserve; promote and fund field research on animals, plants and habitats; support captive breeding programmes for Malagasy species; undertake and promote rigorous conservation planning; education of zoo visitors.
