1953. Became, 1969, an independent permanent institution on the general budget of D-XD4238 - Nordic Council of Ministers (NCM). In 1982, came within the framework of E-XD5798 - Nordic Forest Research Cooperation Committee. Previously also referred to in English as Nordic Forest Work Study Council and Nordic Research Council on Forest Technology.
Promote efficient utilization of the forest technology research and development resources in Scandinavia by: providing information to and serving as coordinating body for the various institutions and organizations; promoting exchange of researchers and dissemination of research findings, standardization of research methods and nomenclature, and consultation in the drawing-up of research programmes; acting as advisory body and coordinating link in liaison with administrative and political authorities in areas related to forest technology research and development.
