1963, Brussels (Belgium), as Union of International and European Civil Servants (UIECS) -- Syndicat des fonctionnaires internationaux et européens (SFIE) -- Verband der Internationalen und Europäischen Beamtem -- Sindicato dei Funzionari Internazionali ed Europei -- Bond van Internationale en Europese Ambtenaren, to unite organizations in the European Communities, later extended to cover other international organizations. Present name adopted 1988. Previously also referred to in English as Union of European Officials. Subsequently changed name to Union of European Civil Servants -- Syndicat des fonctionnaires européens (SFE) -- Sindicato de los Funcionarios Europeos -- Verband der Europäischen Beamtem -- Sindicato dos Funcionarios Europeus -- Sindacato dei Funzionari Europei -- Bond van Europese Ambtenaren -- Europeiska Tjänstemäns Fackförening -- Europaeiske Tjenestemaends Fagforening -- Euroopan Virkamiesliitto -- Sindikato Ipallilon Evropaikon Organismon. SFE stems in its history and fundamental values from a movement which found its origin in the Christian inspired trade union movement. Also referred to as Conf-SFE.
