Founded 2 May 1984, Los Baños (Philippines), when Constitution was adopted, following recommendations of a meeting 23-24 May 1983, Manila (Philippines), organized by E-XE5021 - WorldFish Center. Registered in accordance with Philippine law, 1987.
Promote interaction and cooperation among scientists and technicians involved in fisheries research and development in Asia with a view to encouraging and facilitating complementation, sharing of information and publication of research results; create and propagate awareness of the importance and ways of sound utilization, cultivation, conservation and development of aquatic resources in the region; promote establishment of national fisheries societies and seek affiliation and cooperation with societies, organizations and institutions having similar objectives.
