23 Oct 1955, Geneva (Switzerland), as World Coalition Against Vivisection -- Coalition mondiale contre la vivisection. Statutes adopted 14 Oct 1961, Vienna (Austria); modified: 16 Nov 1963, Geneva; 1 Aug 1969, Geneva, when adopted new title World Coalition for the Abolition of Vivisection. Has also been referred to as World Coalition for the Abolition of Experimentation on the Animal -- Coalition mondiale pour l'abolition de l'expérimentation sur l'animal -- Weltkoalition für die Abschaffung der Tierversuche. Listed title adopted 1981. Registered in accordance with Swiss law. Ceased to exist.

Aims

Based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and that of Animal Rights, demand: abolition of medico-scientific experiments on human beings not of direct therapeutic necessity for the subject, except under informed consent for a therapeutic act which may be beneficial; abolition of all medical experiments on animals having no therapeutic necessity for the subject, and all other experiments whether for pure research, industrial or military purposes.
