Oct 1928, Brussels (Belgium), with the title Office international de documentation et de corrélation pour la protection de la nature, as the delayed result of the decision of an intergovernmental conference, 1913, Bern (Switzerland). Name changed, 1934, when registered under Belgian law; dormant for some years, then reactivated in 1945. Documentation transferred to 'International Union for the Protection of Nature (IUPN)' on its creation, 5 Oct 1948, Fontainebleau (France); subsequently, IUPN became, Jun 1956, Edinburgh, A-XA2654 - International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN).
