Founded
1968-04 Monrovia Liberia
History
Apr 1968, Monrovia (Liberia), on signature of the Monrovia Protocol at a meeting of Heads of West African States. Not to be confused with the 'Monrovia Group' established in 1962 as one of the predecessors of the OAU. The Monrovia meeting was preceded by a meeting in Accra (Ghana) in 1967 organized by E-XE4174 - United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), which gave rise to an Accra Protocol for the establishment of H-XD3424 - Communauté économique de l'Afrique de l'Ouest (CEAO). The Monrovia meeting regarded the Accra Protocol as part of the Protocol for the West African Regional Group and a draft treaty was subsequently prepared, originally for discussion in Dec 1968, Ouagadougou; no subsequent activity of GRAO is reported but CEAO was created in May 1970.
