The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).


10 May 1963, Berlin West (Germany FR), with support of Ford Foundation and two German institutions, as International Institute of Comparative Musicology -- Institut international de musicologie comparative. Statutes revised, 14 July 1965, Berlin (West), when the name International Institute for Comparative Music Studies and Documentation (IICMSD) -- Institut international d'études comparatives de la musique et de documentation musicale -- Internationales Institut für Vergleichende Musikstudien und Dokumentation was adopted. Statutes again revised and current name adopted 1 Apr 1991, Berlin. Ceased to exist, 1996.


Promote, investigate, preserve and diffuse knowledge of musical traditions of the world, with the exception of Western art music; study such music on the basis of comparative methods.
