The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

within the framework of Western European Union (WEU). Assumed residual armaments control activities formerly undertaken by Agency for the Control of Armaments (ACA). Ceased to exist, 1 July 1990, when, together with Agency for the Development of Cooperation in the Field of Armaments and Agency for the Study of Security and Defence Questions, replaced by European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS).

Activities

Exercises no control over atomic weapons. Member states of WEU list biological and chemical weapons subject to control. As of 1990, none reported producing chemical weapons on the mainland of Europe. Agreed non-production measures are carried out at chemical production plants. Monitors activities of the Geneva (Switzerland) Conference on Disarmament, in particular the work on negotiations for a convention on banning of chemical weapons.
