The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

2 Jan 1984, by French language stations in Belgium (RTBF), France (TFI, Antenne 2 and FR3, grouped together under the banner of Satellimages) and Switzerland (SSR). Since formalization of Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), 14-16 Nov 1997, Hanoi (Vietnam), an operating institution of 'La Francophonie'.

Aims

Promote French language, culture and society in diverse forms, through offering the best possible selection of television programmes already shown in the producing countries.

Activities

Present in over 215 million homes in 200 countries 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Comprises 9 television channels:

 • TV5MONDE France-Belgium-Switzerland;

 • TV5MONDE Europe, the name taken in 1988 by the original European stations after a Canadian (Québec-Canada) consortium (CTQC) joined TV5 in 1986;

 • TV5MONDE Afrique launched June 1992;

 • TV5MONDE Middle East;

 • TV5 Québec-Canada;

 • TV5MONDE Asie;

 • TV5MONDE Etats-Unis;

 • TV5MONDE Latin America launched Oct 1992;

 • TV5MONDE Pacifique, launched Sep 2009.

Provides subtitles for a proportion of its programmes in: French; English; Spanish; Arabic; Portuguese; Dutch; German; Japanese; Korean; Romanian; Russian.
