History

1 Mar 1993, following decision, 1992, Geneva (Switzerland), of Additional Plenipotentiary Conference of International Telecommunication Union (ITU), as the coordinating Bureau for the new Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R), which replaces International Radio Consultative Committee (CCIR), set up 18 Nov 1927, Washington DC (USA), as Comité consultatif international technique des communications radioélectriques, and International Frequency Registration Board (IFRB), formed 1947, Atlantic City NJ (USA).

Activities

As the executive arm of the Radiocommunication Sector: provides administrative and technical support to Radiocommunication Study Groups for the production of Recommendations and handbooks in all Radio matters; applies provisions of Radio Regulations and regional agreements; records and registers frequency assignments and orbital characteristics of space services, and maintains the Master International Frequency Board; advises members on use of the radio-frequency spectrum nd the geostationary satellite orbit and investigates and assists in resolving cases of harmful interference; provides technical information and seminars on national frequency management and radiocommunications and works closely with Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) in assisting developing countries.
