1984, Port Vila (Vanuatu), merging the operations of UN Development Advisory Team (UDAT) stationed in Suva (Fiji) and UN ESCAP Liaison Office which was located in Nauru. An extension of the E-XE4177 - United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Secretariat, acts as its contact point in the Pacific subregion. Previously also referred to as ESCAP Pacific Operations Centre (ESCAP/POC).
Assist Pacific island countries to: strengthen technical competence, develop local initiatives, mobilize domestic resources, improve planning and coordination, deal effectively with the outside world.
