History

25 Apr 1990, as European Organisation for Testing and Certification -- Organisation européenne pour les essais et la certification, on signature of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) by E-XE2442 - European Commission (EC), D-XD0766 - EFTA, D-XD7631 - International Society of the Built Environment (ISBE) and D-XD0634 - European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC). First meeting of governing body: Nov 1990. Registered in accordance with Belgian law, Apr 1993. Ceased to exist.

Aims

Constitute the focal point in Europe for all issues relating to conformity assessment; in accordance with the MOU, provide the appropriate framework for the non-regulatory sphere with regard to conformity assessment issues, whilst operating in such a manner as to give technical support to legislation for the Commission of the European Communities and EFTA countries regarding conformity assessment in the regulatory sphere; encourage, foster and manage development of European certification systems and of mutual recognition agreements for test reports and certificates; assist the European Commission and EFTA countries in defining technical conditions for furthering agreements, including those with third countries; provide information and exchange of experience; assist and complement the European standardization process in the field of conformity assessment.

Board of Administrators, consisting of 9 Administrators: President, Treasurer (of Belgian nationality) and 7 other delegates willing to stand for election.
