Nov 1958, Leipzig (German DR). Since Oct 1971, operates as a permanent international body affiliated to the C-XC2307 - World Mining Congress (WMC). Also referred to as International Bureau for Rock Mechanics -- Bureau international de mécanique des roches -- Internationales Büro für Gebirgsmechanik (IBG).
Aims
Carry out effective rock mechanics activities for the mining industry; encourage international cooperation in the fields of rock mechanics and mining geomechanics; stimulate basic research in the area of rock and strata mechanics; study geomechanical problems which arise in mining practice; encourage application of rock mechanics to planning, design and operation of mines; maintain relations with other organizations dealing with problems related to rock mechanics and rock engineering.
