Established by Kofi Annan, Secretary-General of A-XA3375 - United Nations (UN). Endorsed by UN member states at 2005 World Summit (A/RES/60/01).
Aims
Support democracy through empowering civil society worldwide with focus on strengthening the voice of civil society, promoting human rights and ensuring participation of all groups in democratic processes; complement and enhance the United Nations more traditional work with governments in order to strengthen democratic governance worldwide by supporting the "demand" rather than the "supply" side of democratization.
