8-10 Dec 1986, Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), following 2 earlier meetings: 22-26 Oct 1984, Mbabane (Swaziland); 15-20 Dec 1985, Berlin West (Germany FR), within the framework of U-XF1627 - Advanced Technology Assessment System (ATAS). No longer active.
Aims
Strengthen endogenous capabilities to: assess newly emerging technologies and ascertain potential effects on socio-economic conditions in African countries; alert policy-makers, decision-makers, planners and entrepreneurs to adverse or favourable effects of technological advances, enabling them to achieve appropriate policy reorientation and develop necessary national capabilities to deal effectively with new technologies; inform interested groups of new technologies, enhance awareness and encourage appropriate action at various levels; assist in identifying and improving appropriate national technological infrastructures for reception and interpretation of data and information and for undertaking assessment and forecasting of local effects of new technologies.
