History
Founded by Honora Nano Nagle (1718-1784), as a Catholic religious order of women. Constitutions based on the Rule of St Augustine completed in 1793 and approved by Pope Pius VI; final approbation granted by Pope Pius VII in 1805. There are at present many congregations which derive from the original motherhouse. Under the present form the Union was created in 1976 when 18 congregations united.

Bring the light of Gospel to bear on human needs and situations; fulfil mission of commitment to the poor through various form of apostolic action; carry out educational activities.
Structure
Generalate; Provinces; Vice-Provinces; Regions; Communities. General Chapter (every 5 years); Extended Council Meeting (every 5 years).
