History
1963, Cairo (Egypt), under an agreement on joint sponsorship between United Nations (UN) and the Government of Egypt. Became an independent establishment of the Egyptian Government, Jan 1992, following termination of this agreement, Dec 1991.
Aims
Provide demographic training to persons working in the field of population; undertake research and provide advisory services in population and related fields to interested governments and other organizations.

Activities
Annual seminar held in December, Cairo (Egypt), at the end of the academic year. Carries out research. Training at 4 levels leads to: (1) General Diploma in Demography; (2) Special Diploma in Population and Development; (3) Master of Philosophy in Demography; (4) Doctor of Philosophy with specialization in Demography. International Programme of Training in Population and Development (IPTPD), also referred to as International Training Programme in Population and Development, forms part of UNFPA, previously sponsored by Global Programme in Population and Sustainable Development.
