Established by E-XE8838 - Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, as a organ representing regions and municipalities of the Member States of the D-XD0435 - Council of Europe (CE), replacing Standing Conference of Local and Regional Authorities of Europe -- Conférence permanente des pouvoirs locaux et régionaux de l'Europe -- Ständige Konferenz der Gemeinden und Regionen Europas, set up 12 Jan 1957, Strasbourg.
Aims
Ensure participation of regional and local authorities in the process of European unity and in the work of the Council of Europe; promote and monitor functioning of local and regional democracy in the larger Europe; strengthen trans-frontier and inter-regional cooperation; deal with all questions of policy affecting local and regional authorities, including local and regional self-government, rural and urban development; advise and provide expertise to national authorities on issues relating to local and regional democracy.
