5-6 Sep 1981, Cotonou (Benin), at a meeting of African geographers, with the setting up of an Interim Committee of 4 members to prepare draft constitution, inform on the existence of the association, compile directory of geographers and organize meetings. Election of Executive Committee and amendment of statutes, 10-11 Feb 1986, Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire).
Promote scientific geography in Africa; facilitate cooperation among geographers and other scientists and technicians with similar objectives in Africa; encourage cooperation with other continents; sustain and orientate research of use to socio-economic development.
