History

Jan 1993, having been proposed Apr 1989. A coordination centre for interdisciplinary applied coastal research created by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Barcelona), the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Barcelona) and International Federation of Institutes for Advanced Study (IFIAS), with the support of United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment). Originally referred to as: International Centre for Coastal Resources Management; International Coordinating Centre for Coastal Resources Management.

Aims

Initiate and coordinate: execution of coastal engineering and coastal science studies analysing and resolving coastal zone and nearshore problems; execution of coastal resources management studies aiming towards sustainable development of coastal zones and resources; education and training programmes on coastal zone problems and resources management.
