Original title: Sunspot Index Data Centre - World Data Centre -- Centre mondial de données pour les indices d'activité solaire. Previously also referred to as WDC-C for Sunspot Index. Previously an analysis service of Federation of Astronomical and Geophysical Data Analysis Services (FAGS). Part of the ISC World Data System (ISC-WDS). Since 1 Jan 2000, also a Regional Warning Centre (RWC) of International Space Environment Service (ISES). Other interested unions: International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG); International Astronomical Union (IAU); International Union of Radio Science (URSI). Since 2003 one of the Service Development Activities (SDAs) of the ESA Space Weather Pilot Project, incorporated into Space Weather European Network (SWENET).


Collect, analyse and provide data on solar activity and its consequences for the environment of the earth in space and on the earth itself by setting up a monitoring, alerting and forecasting service for space weather.

Deduces daily, monthly, yearly and smoothed monthly Sunspot Numbers from local Wolf numbers observed by network, including from 40 stations (provisional Sunspot Number) to 110 stations (definitive Sunspot Number), with Locarno (Switzerland) as reference station. Since 1992, also provides daily provisional hemispheric sunspot numbers and their monthly means. Since 1 Jan 2000, distributes daily ursigrams with space weather data and forecasts, and fast alert warnings when required. Organizes 'European Space Weather Week' (in Nov).
