History

10 Apr 1975, Viña del Mar (Chile), following Resolution No 24, 10 Apr 1975, during the 6th Meeting of Ministers of Education of signatory countries to the Andrés Bello convention for the educational, scientific and cultural integration of Latin America and Spain (Andrés Bello Convention), of which it is a specialized entity.

Aims

Serve as a specialized organization of educational, cultural, scientific and technological integration in areas bordering on the signatory countries to the Andrés Bello Convention; promote integration through education and human resources capacity building; develop renewed ideas on integration based on universal human values; develop activities oriented to this field.

Activities

Work programme realized in collaboration with the Executive Secretary in agreement with the lines of Cross-Sectional Programming of the Andrés Bello Convention. Projects: Training for Educators and Other Social Actors - promotes capacity building of actors working in the area of education; 'Network of Advanced Studies on Integration' - aims to attain convergence of theoretical actions and practices destined to deepen the process of regional integration, articulating through the Network to actors in the academic world, the public sector, enterprises agents and civil society. Information Network of the Andrés Bello Convention (RICAB) - built within the framework of lines of management drafted by the Andrés Bello Convention, with the aim of reaching coordinated action on integration; Integrated Centre of Documentation and Information (CIDI) - specializes in economic, social and cultural integration bodies and functions as a node of RICAB. Cooperates and collaborates with: embassies of CAB countries members accredited in Bolivia; Education Ministry of Bolivia and other CAB countries; indigenous intercultural universities (UNIBOL) of Bolivia; universities in Bolivia and other CAB countries, including through joint post-graduate programmes. Initiated interdisciplinary, international PhD Programme in Humanities and Sciences with the National University Siglo XX, 2010. Offers post-graduate courses in education, culture and methodology, and a country-wide Master's programme in collaboration with Education Ministry on Productive Community Education. Supports and evaluates impact of the literacy and post-literacy programmes in Bolivia and other CAB countries. Organizes: Scientific Event (annual), in cooperation with other organizations; monthly academic seminars; international conferences.
