PRESIDENT’S ADDRESS
President Commonwealth Association of Architect’s Statement for The Tenth Session of World Urban Forum 2020.

“Dear Colleagues ,
On behalf of the Commonwealth association of architects I would like to welcome you all to the tenth session of World Urban Forum 2020, graciously hosted by the UAE at Abu Dhabi.
World Urban Forum is set to realize a common vision for cities of the future. As you all know the tenth session of WUF is the largest global gathering on the future of the cities. We believe the series of events and dialogues will lead towards finding ways towards achieving sustainable and livable cities for today and tomorrow.
The CAA along with the following has planned a series of events which are follows:
1.Delivering Sustainable Urbanization and Development in the Commonwealth organized by Ministry of Infrastructure Rwanda
2.The second event is Achieving SDG 11 in the Commonwealth through Plantech - an open discussion of digitally established urban planning organized by Royal Town Planning Institute .
3.Building Capacity in the built Environment Profession in the commonwealth organized by Commonwealth Association of Architects .
4.A call to action on sustainable urbanization at CHOGM 2020 , Ministry of Rwanda .
5.Building back better in the small Island in the State of Commonwealth organized by Commonwealth Association of Planners .
We hope that we work towards including the urban poor in adaptation to climate change, to resilient building and to sustainable urban development .
Together with this we also hope that ultimately, WUF - 10 will help us achieve 2030 Sustainable Development Goals for the future generation.
I would like to congratulate all involved in making World Urban Forum 2020 a big success .

The RIBA International Presidents roundtable in London.
The Roundtable took place during the Royal Gold Medal events (2020 recipient: Grafton Architects) which was held in London on 12 and 13 February 2020.
On 13 February, in London, RIBA offered RIBA Presidential Medal to Presidents.
Immediate Past President CAA Vincent Cassar represented and received the Presidential medal on the behalf of President CAA Kalim A. Siddiqui.

President of The Commonwealth Association of Architects , Kalim A. Siddiqui awarded RIBA Presidential Medal at the RIBA International Roundtable Conference held in London on 13th February 2020. The medal acknowledges the mutually beneficial collaboration between Commonwealth Association of Architects and Royal Institute of British Architects.

CAA delegation at ARCASIA ACPP RT in Sri Lanka on Feb 18,2020. Roundtable Conference and Workshop organized by ARCASIA Committee for Professional Practice, “CPD Methodology and Experience.” Ar. Jayantha Perara who is the chair of CAA professional practice along with CAA president presented CAA's E-CPD program.

Commonwealth Association of Architects proudly announces the acceptance of membership with GlobalABC.

The GlobalABC operates under the mandate of UN Environment from a secretariat based in Paris and comprises 128 members in 29 countries. It’s aims are support delivery of the climate change commitments made as part of the Paris Agreement in the buildings and construction sector. Specifically, it is focused on the raising of standards in relation to energy efficient design and construction.

GlobalABC would be expected to contribute to the work of the Alliance , which is undertaken in five work areas:

1. Awareness and Education
2. Public Policies
3. Market Transformation
4. Finance
5. Building Measurement, Data and Information.

The GlobalABC is in the process of publishing a series of very important regional roadmaps. There is a pressing need for advocacy, education and capacity building, and it is here that we believe the CAA can play an important role which is entirely consistent with our current activity and our commitment to support delivery of the SDG’s.

We look forward to work towards attaining the goals of CAA and GlobalABC collectively.
