The Coimbra Group Annual Conference and General Assembly attracted around 300 participants from 40 universities across Europe to Turku, Finland.
The Coimbra Group Annual Conference and General Assembly, hosted by the University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University, was organized in Turku from June 4th to June 7th 2024. The event centered on the theme "Research and Education - Most Impactful Together", spotlighting the synergies between research and education.
As an association with a history since 1985, the Coimbra Group unites 40 interdisciplinary universities from 22 countries, championing internationalization, academic cooperation, societal contribution, as well as excellence in education and research. It is influential in shaping European policies on research and education.
The conference was hosted by University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University, both long-standing members of the association. The conference drew approximately 300 delegates from member universities, setting an all-time participation record.
The event culminated with the Coimbra Group General Assembly. The conference closed on a high note, with social programme including tours to local attractions like the Turku Cathedral and Paimio Sanatorium, as well as Kurjenrahka National Park. The programme also included a trip to Naantali aboard the s/s Ukkopekka steamship.
The conference was praised for its relevant and diverse agenda, and the organizers received acknowledgment for their excellent orchestration of the event. The local host were equally pleased with the success of the event. Rector Kola concluded the conference with gratitude towards the association for their engaged collaboration and highlighted the need for continuous advocacy.
