Why Riga?

By Mr Aigars Smiltans, Head of Meetings & Events / MEET RIGA / Riga Investment and Tourism Agency
How is Riga recovering from the Covid pandemic?

Riga is recovering well from the pandemic, and the city attracts new international meetings and events each year. Its Northern European geographical location, easy accessibility from all major European airports, and reliable service suppliers at affordable rates attract new international conferences and congresses. All information for association event planners is available at MeetRiga, where we regularly update details on existing service suppliers and periodically add new ones.

Did you know that…?

Latvian is one of the oldest languages in the world and belongs to the Baltic branch of the Indo-European language family. It has retained many archaic features and is known for its rich collection of folk songs.

Riga is the birthplace of the Christmas tree tradition. The first recorded Christmas tree use was in 1510 when a decorated tree was erected and danced around in the Town Hall Square.

Riga Central Market is not only one of the largest markets in Europe but also one of the most diverse. It's housed in five former Zeppelin hangars and offers a wide range of fresh produce, meats, dairy products, and traditional Latvian foods.

Help for associations?

MEET RIGA / Riga Investment and Tourism Agency is a one-stop service point that assists associations with finding a local representative, linking with local knowledge-hubs, and providing information about venues, accommodation, transportation, local attractions, and more. Furthermore, local association partners can apply for the Business event support program funds.
