conference materials, starting the 2nd decade of Responsibility to Protect (R2P)

The Stanley Foundation, in partnership with the Carnegie Corporation of New York and the MacArthur Foundation, successfully marked the 10th anniversary of the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) with a well-attended conference last week that examined R2P through past experience and contemporary realities, and considered its future.

The daylong program brought together figures critical to the historical and contemporary evolution of R2P, including United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon; members of the International Commission on Intervention and State Sovereignty; key international, regional, and national officials; academic and policy experts; civil society figures; and journalists.

You can now view resources from the conference, including video recordings of each of the day's panels and speakers, background materials, and sideline interviews with participants such as Roméo Dallaire, Michael Ignatieff, and Ambassador Hardeep Singh Puri, permanent representative of India to the United Nations.

You can also view keynotes delivered the day prior to the conference by former Australian Foreign Minister Gareth Evans and Prosecutor-Elect of the International Criminal Court Fatou Bensouda at a media seminar on R2P.
