History

1947, Paris (France), a French national organization having been founded, 1889, in response to the centenary of the French Revolution. Registered in accordance with French law, 19 Mar 1948. Statutes modified: 1957; 1985. Also referred to in English as International League for Child and Adult Education.

Aims

In a spirit of secular humanism, opposed to clericalism, and with a view to developing the individual's humanity and citizenship: promote continuing public education in every country; bring together national organizations whose object is respect of freedom of conscience, the principle of free discussion and the democratic ideal; assist in the foundation, development and expansion of institutions and groups which pursue the same ideal through teaching, education and cultural activities.
