The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

21 Dec 1976, following decision of Conference of Heads of State of French-Speaking Countries, Mar 1975, Bangui (Central African Rep). Became operational Sep 1979.

Aims

Contribute to economic development and poverty reduction within Member States by facilitating investment project financing in both public and private sectors, and microfinance activities.

Activities

Finances selected investment projects. Methods of intervention: financial guarantee of bank loans and bond issues intended, on one hand for funding investment projects initiated in the territory of Member States by both public and private business, and on the other hand, for funding activities of microfinance institutions; interest rebate in favour of Member States through subsidies to make concessional funds mobilized by countries and their subdivisions; extension of loan tenor granted to SMEs/SMIs through a refinancing mechanism. Operations in all economic sectors: basic infrastructure; rural development; industry; agro-industry; telecommunications; energy; tourism and hotel industry; real estate; transport; education; health. Business activities are excluded from the Fund's scope of intervention. As at 31 Dec 2010, cumulative guarantees stood at about euro 355.2 million for 141 projects. These operations made it possible to mobilize funds in an amount of nearly euro 703 million.
