History

Founded as successor to H-XH1759 - International Office for Catholic Scouting, created in 1920. New Statutes approved by Holy See Jun 1962 and Nov 1975.

Aims

Contribute to the complete education of young people through scouting from the Catholic faith viewpoint; cooperate in developing and enhancing the spiritual dimension of scouting in accordance with unity and diversity of the World Scout Movement; ensure that Catholic scouts are actively present in the Church and guarantee communication between the Catholic Church and the World Scout Movement; promote projects related to the development of the Catholic faith and of society; provide opportunity for members to meet together as friends and for Catholic Scout leaders and officials to share their experience as providers of an educational service from the Catholic faith viewpoint; encourage dialogue with other creeds in scouting; foster relations with national and international institutions; assist associations to develop programmes for education in the Catholic faith, while respecting different religious views and practices.

Structure

World Council (meets every 3 years), comprising members of the Steering Committee, persons in charge of each member organization (or appointed deputy), National Chaplain of each member organization and (ex-officio) a delegate of the World Committee of Scouting. Steering Committee, comprising members of General Secretariat and representatives of the 4 ICCS regions. General Secretariat, consisting of Secretary General (serving as Chair), World Ecclesiastical Assistant, Treasurer, 2 Deputies and others. Members of the Secretariat who are not members of the Steering Committee may attend the meetings of the Council. Regions (4): Africa; America; Asia-Pacific; Europe-Mediterranean, each headed by a Regional Secretary, elected by the Regional Council, in cooperation with an Ecclesiastical Assistant and a Committee.
