History
2 Feb 1791, Paris (France), as Institute of the Heart of Jesus -- Institut du Coeur de Jésus -- Istituto dei Sacerdoti del Cuore di Gesù -- Societas Sacerdotum Cordis Iesu, by Joseph Pierre Picot de Clorivière. Restored, 29 Oct 1918, by Daniel Fontaine, as a secular institute for diocesan priests of the Catholic faith. Papal approval received, 2 Feb 1952. In some countries 'Institut du Coeur de Jésus -- Istituto dei Sacerdoti del Cuore di Gesù' continues to be used. Name subsequently changed to: Groupes Evangile et Mission (GEM). Current name adopted, 1999.
Aims
Give support to and dynamize evangelical and missionary life for member groups and also for priests, laics and especially members of secular institutes in France, Belgium, Africa and elsewhere.
