The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

Founded

1997

History

1997, within the framework of C-XC3005 - NATO, replacing U-XE3129 - Advisory Group for Aerospace Research and Development (AGARD). Reports to: NATO Military Committee; Conference of National Armaments Directors (CNAD). Ceased to exist when merged with NATO Undersea Research Centre to become J-AA2196 - NATO Science and Technology Organization (STO).

Aims

Act as a single focus in NATO for defence research and technology activities and develop and maintain a coordinated long-term strategy; sponsor joint studies and research projects; conduct and promote cooperative research and information exchange; coordinate research and technology programmes and activities between nations and within NATO as appropriate; ensure coordination and harmonization of programmes of work within the NATO research and technology community; support development and effective use of national defence research and technology to meet military needs, maintain a technological lead and provide advice to NATO and national decision-makers; ensure effective coordination with other NATO bodies involved in the field; provide advice on research and technology issues to senior NATO bodies.

Research and Technology Board (RTB), including (ex officio) Directors of NATO C3 Agency (NC3A) and Allied Command Transformation. 'NATO Research and Technology Agency (RTA) -- Agence pour la recherche et la technologie', including: Operations and Coordination Division (OCD); Policy and Outreach Division (POD). Short-term technical teams for specific activities; panels/group of national representatives (7); networks of national experts; national coordinators. Headquarters in Neuilly-sur-Seine (France).
