Mar 1961, as Union franco-espagnole pour la coordination de la production et du transport de l'électricité (UFEPTE). Listed name adopted 1962, when Portugal joined the Union. Ceased to exist 18 Nov 1988, when activities taken over by U-XF1783 - Interconnexion de l'électricité du Sud-Ouest de l'Europe (IESOE).
Aims
Achieve the best use of the means of production and transport of electrical energy, either existing or to be created, in member countries; facilitate energy exchange between them.

Members of the Union are chosen on an individual basis from amongst the representatives of industry and production engaged in international trade. President and Vice-President are elected in rotation from each of the three member countries (2-year term).
