History

8 Sep 1956, Manila (Philippines), on signature of South-East Asia Collective Defence Treaty and Pacific Charter by the 8 member Governments. Ratification of the Treaty completed 19 Feb 1955. Headquartered in Bangkok (Thailand). Instrumental in setting up: 1967, F-XF4954 - Asian Institute of Technology (AIT); 1963, U-XU5780 - SEATO Clinical Research Laboratory; 1960, U-XU5812 - SEATO Medical Research Laboratory. The 2 latter have been inactive since SEATO itself was phased out, 30 Jun 1977, with only minor SEATO residual activities continuing.
