History
2 Feb 1899, Panjampatti (India). Moved, 2 Jul 1911, to Madurai (India). Recognized as an Institute of the pontifical right, 19 Jan 1993.
Aims
Take a full part in the life and ministry of the Church through devotion to: preaching the Good News to the poor in simplicity and love; providing catechetical instruction to girls and boys in schools and to young women in parishes, helping them grow to mature men and women of deep Christian faith; proclaiming Jesus Christ to non-Christians, and baptizing those in danger of death; assisting parish priests in preparing the faithful to receive sacraments; imparting education and running boarding houses and mercy homes; rendering medical services; engaging in social action, visiting houses and comforting the sick or suffering.

Commissions (8): Culture and Communication; Educational Apostolate; Evangelization; Financial Affairs; Formation; Interfaith Dialogue; Medical Apostolate; Social Awareness and Social Action. Commission Secretaries meet annually.
