Founded 1 Jul 1961, Budapest (Hungary), as International Measurement Conference -- Conférence internationale de la mesure, a Preparatory Committee having been set up 1958, Budapest, at 1st International Measurement Conference. Charter, Constitution and By-Laws adopted Jun 1965, Warsaw (Poland), when present name was adopted. Constitution amended 1972, 1979, 1986, 1988, 1994, 2000, 2004, 2005, 2009, 2014.
Promote international exchange of scientific and technical information relating to developments in measuring techniques, instrument design and manufacture, and application of instrumentation in scientific research and in industry; facilitate cooperation among scientists and engineers in studying problems in this field.
