The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History
Founded on the initiative of F-XF0440 - TWAS, by ministers of science and technology and higher education and heads of science academies and research councils in developing countries.
Aims
Promote science-based sustainable economic development in the South; encourage developing world governments to promote scientific enterprise; support integration of science and technology into national development plans in the South; enhance the South's contributions to and involvement in global science and environmental projects likely to have a strong impact on the economic and social development in developing countries; promote collaborative programmes between scientific institutions and organizations of the South in areas of critical importance to development; strengthen relations between scientific institutions and organizations in the South and their counterparts in the North through bilateral links and exchange programmes; recognize and reward science and technology innovations of substantial benefit to the South's economic and social development; support establishment of and cooperation among international centres of excellence for sustainable development in the South.
