Founded on the initiative of 1st 'Simposio para la Coordinación y Difusión de los Estudios Latinoamericanos'. Statutes approved at 2nd Symposium, 6-7 Jun 1980, Caracas (Venezuela). E-XE4192 - Centro de Investigaciones sobre América y el Caribe (CIALC) and U-XG6227 - Programa Universitario de Difusión de Estudios Latinoamericanos (PUDEL), both created by the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), coordinate activities of FIEALC and of D-XD4037 - Sociedad Latinoamericana de Estudios sobre América Latina y el Caribe (SOLAR).
Promote exchange of knowledge and ideas regarding Latinamerican studies among scholars and research institutes; encourage interdisciplinary approaches with respect for the work of each participant; collaborate on creation of libraries and specialized information centers on Latinamerican studies.
