History

Nov 1978, Mexico City (Mexico), on the initiative of 1st 'Simposio para la Coordinación y Difusión de los Estudios Latinoamericanos'. Statutes approved at 2nd Symposium, 6-7 June 1980, Caracas (Venezuela). Also referred to as Asociación Internacional de Estudios Latinoamericanos y del Caribe. Centro de Investigaciones sobre América y el Caribe (CIALC) and Programa Universitario de Difusión de Estudios Latinoamericanos (PUDEL), both created by the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), coordinate activities of FIEALC and of Latin American Society of Studies on Latin America and the Caribbean (SOLAR).

Aims

Promote exchange of knowledge and ideas regarding Latinamerican studies among scholars and research institutes; encourage interdisciplinary approaches with respect for the work of each participant; collaborate on creation of libraries and specialized information centers on Latinamerican studies.
