Founded 1987, Québec (Canada). Following meeting of representatives of 32 teaching unions from 22 countries. 'Charter of Ottawa' (constitutional charter) adopted 1993.
Design and adapt policies to ensure education is taken into account as a priority element; as a representative of trade union expression, affirm active recognition of the need to develop education; commit trade unions of French language regions to support for diversity, solidarity and pursuit of social justice and democracy; see the French-speaking community as a privileged solidarity network; reaffirm commitment for human rights, against inequality and for better quality of training and education for all; reaffirm common union commitment within the framework of the democratic trade union movement.
