History

Founded on MV "Bornholm" in Kattegat, on adoption of Constitution, following assemblies in 1959, 1960 and 1964, Nyborg (Denmark).

Constitutional changes: 1971, Nyborg (Denmark); 1974, Engelberg (Switzerland); 1986, Stirling (UK); 1992, Prague (Czech Rep); 2003, Trondheim (Norway); 2009, Lyon (France).

New constitution adopted 2013, Budapest (Hungary).

U-XE4611 - Church and Society Commission of the Conference of European Churches merged into CEC, Dec 2014.

Aims

Establish contacts between Christian Churches in all parts of Europe - Anglicans, Protestants, Orthodox and Old Catholics, committed to live and witness together in a spirit of ecumenism, sharing, understanding and mutual respect; promote unity of the Church, building bridges between minority and majority churches, between generations, between women and men, between Christians of different confessions; present a common Christian witness to the people of Europe.
