History

Set up as a subsidiary organ of C-XC4129 - Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), following resolution 2/8-E, adopted by 8th Islamic Conference of K-XF4192 - Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM), May 1977, Tripoli (Libyan AJ). Activities started 1 Jun 1978. Also known as Ankara Centre -- Centre d'Ankara. Previously known under the acronym SESRTCIC and CRSESFPI.

Aims

Support the process of cooperation and development among member states by activities in statistics, research, training and technical cooperation, and publish results; compile and disseminate economic and social statistics relating to OIC members; undertake research work based on such data; study economic structures in member states; prepare technical reports and background documents for presentation to related OIC fora; act as computerized source of information; function as focal point for technical cooperation; organize and conduct training courses.

Structure

General Assembly (annual), consisting of one representative of each OIC member state, as E-XE2848 - Islamic Commission for Economic, Cultural and Social Affairs (ICECSA), elects 9 members of Board of Directors (meets annually) which also includes Director General of the Centre and OIC Secretary-General as ex-officio members.
