18 Aug 1908, Dresden (Germany), as Union végétarienne internationale, successor body of Vegetarian Federal Union, set up 1889. New Constitution adopted Aug 1955, Paris (France); amended Aug 1960, Hannover (Germany FR); revised Sep 1971 The Hague (Netherlands). New Constitution adopted 1982, Ulm (Germany FR); fully revised 1990, Tel Aviv (Israel); amended 1994, The Hague.
Aims
Coordinate the work of regional and national vegetarian societies and encourage formation of new ones; collect and disseminate news of vegetarian interest; ensure that vegetarianism is represented at international bodies.
