Founded under the joint sponsorship of C-XC1318 - International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres (IAML) and C-XC2278 - International Musicological Society (IMS). As of 2007, third sponsoring society: B-XB2061 - International Council for Traditions of Music and Dance (ICTMD), As of 2022, fourth sponsoring society: D-XD9606 - International Association for the Study of Popular Music (IASPM).
Aims
Document the world’s knowledge about all musical traditions, and to make this knowledge accessible to research and performance communities worldwide via digital collections and advanced tools; include the music scholarship of all countries, in all languages, and across all disciplinary and cultural boundaries, thereby fostering research in the arts, humanities, sciences and social sciences.
