1976

History

1976, within the framework of the D-XD4579 - Caribbean Community (CARICOM), initially as advisory body to the 'Common Market Council' - currently replaced by 'Community Council of Ministers' - in the run-up to F-XF5457 - CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME). Was also referred to as CARICOM Standards Council. Replaced by E-XE4243 - CARICOM Regional Organization for Standards and Quality (CROSQ), 2001, Belize (Belize), on signature of an intergovernmental agreement by 'Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community'.

Aims

Promote progressive development and harmonization of standards throughout the Caribbean Common Market; recommend and coordinate the formulation and adoption of standards for products of importance to intra-regional trade and the associated test methods, quality evaluation and certification procedures; assist CARICOM Member States in the development of National Standards Bureaux; investigate and mark recommendations to the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) on standards related trade difficulties; recommend a common set of primary metrological standards for CARICOM adoption.
