25 Oct 1989, as Centre régional de recherches sur bananiers et plantains (CRBP), by the Government of Cameroon and E-XE6070 - Centre de coopération internationale en recherche agronomique pour le développement (CIRAD). Restructured under present name, 1 Feb 2001, Yaoundé (Cameroon), following intergovernmental agreement signed by Conference of Ministers Responsible for Research and Development of West and Central Africa (COMRED/AOC). Headquarters agreement with government of Cameroon, 30 May 2013.
Improve production and productivity of plantains and other locally consumed bananas towards maintaining food security and alleviating poverty through sustainable agricultural practices in Central and West Africa.
