History

Established when operations began, following signature of Articles of Agreement, 13 Dec 1960, Managua (Nicaragua), by governments of El Salvador, Guatemala (Guatemala), Honduras and Nicaragua. Costa Rica became a member 23 Sep 1963.

A financial institution of F-XF6292 - Central American Common Market (CACM).

Statutes registered in 'UNTS 1/6544'.

Aims

Implement economic integration and balanced economic growth of member countries; finance projects to further these aims and develop trade in the Central American Common Market; support Central American free trade objectives; improve, expand or substitute agricultural activities to establish a regional supply system.

Assembly of Governors (annual), comprising Ministers of Economics and Presidents of Central Banks of member countries. Board of Directors of up to 9 members (5 from founding countries and 4 from non-regional members). Headed by Executive President/Executive Officer, assisted by Executive Vice-President. Management Divisions (6), each headed by Manager: Business; Credit; Institutional Risk; Financial; Operations; Human Resources. Staff areas (3): Chief Economist; Institutional Relations; Legal Advisor.
